Grating
What is it and what is it for?
March, 2024
Grating is a metallic mesh made up of crossing bars in the shape of a checkerboard. This material is easily found at the entrance to buildings and garages, allowing the passage of vehicles and people and simultaneously allowing the drainage of rainwater and small solid waste.
It is a material with unique characteristics from the point of view of durability and mechanical resistance, allowing it to support large loads.
We can find several types of gratings on the market. The most used is electrowelded, consisting of a crossing of bars, called bearing bars, and twisted rods, called separators.
The bearing bar is, as the name suggests, responsible for supporting loads.
The separator, made of twisted rod, is responsible for fixing and separating the load-bearing bars so that they remain fixed during the load-bearing process.
The Grating can be manufactured in rectangular and round shapes according to the project for which it is intended. There are several hundred different references with bars of different heights and thicknesses for applications with different load requirements.
There are many grating manufacturers around the world, producing gratings in two-dimensional format. Cobermaster, a Portuguese company, developed an innovative system for manufacturing three-dimensional gratings. The three-dimensional grating allows for much more diverse applications as it can take on spherical, concave, wavy and many other shapes.
